Why 50k Comics? The Inspiration Behind the Name

When I first decided to start my own indie comics company, I knew I had a lot to learn. After all, there’s no class in school that teaches you how to make comics while running a business. But, I knew every choice had to carry meaning. Every character’s name, every detail of a cover, even seemingly unimportant color choices - I craft as much as I can with intent, folding in hidden significance for those who look closely. The name “50k Comics” is no exception. People often ask, “Why 50k?” The answer has two sides: one firmly grounded in reality, and the other inspired by something more fantastical.

First, the grounded.

I grew up playing football and Yu-Gi-Oh!. At first, that might sound random or unimportant, but isn’t it a wild, hilarious mix of two completely different worlds? I loved playing football, but I was also an unapologetic geek. That let me connect with a wide range of people, and experience a lot of different perspectives. Jocks and geeks don’t normally get to step into each other’s world, but I was able to, and I learned so much because of it.

In college, I worked hard to stay fit, but my passion for card games really took over. I eventually discovered the Dragon Ball Super Card Game and instantly fell in love with it. What began as a weekend hobby at my local game store quickly grew into much more: a YouTube channel, a coaching business, and even global travel to compete in tournaments. And I wasn’t just playing—I was winning.

Through this experience, I met some of my closest friends and discovered that life doesn’t have to follow a traditional or linear path. While attending university and working more conventional jobs, I was fortunately able to explore different passions and business ideas. In Dragon Ball’s combat system, “50k” is a sort of magic number, and that sense of magic stayed with me as I moved from content creation and coaching into publishing my own comics.

Next, the fantastical.

Carrying “50k” into the future has helped me set ambitious goals for my comic book journey. Put simply, I want to blow this thing up. I’m going to create 50,000 stories, 50,000 characters, 50,000 pages of art. I’m determined to get these stories out of my head and into beautifully bound books, and I know they’ll create compelling and exciting narratives. For me, 50k is magic milestone; it’s the foundation of a comic universe that I’m creating to rival the greats. And the best part? You’re here at the very start of this adventure, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have you along for the ride.
